Thulium-doped yttrium aluminum perovskite (Tm:YAP or Tm:_YAlO3) is one of the few materials that can be used to generate wavelengths in the mid-IR range, can be used at about 2µm and can be pumped well at the same time using an AlGaAs laser diode (at 795nm). It has a high quantum efficiency, good physical, chemical and optical properties, linearly polarized output and an absorption band of 4nm. Laser systems of this wavelength are often used in medical or military applications.
