ERB15

ERB15 laser system

This Er:YAG laser, which is Q-switched using the FTIR modulator, is unique in its form. It generates 60 ns short pulses at a pulse energy of 15 mJ. Laser systems that generate radiation at 2940 nm are of particular interest for medical applications, as this wavelength has a 10,000 times higher absorption in water than radiation at 1064 nm.

With its high peak pulse power, this makes the ERB15 an ideal tool for a wide range of medical applications. Compared to all other lasers, the Er:YAG laser with a wavelength of 3 µm has the largest absorption coefficient for water and the lowest penetration depth. A frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser, for example, requires 40 million times more pulse energy than an Er:YAG laser to cause the same temperature increase in water with the same cross-sectional area.
